Toxic Masculinity Discussion
On Wednesday, 13 January, Sid and Graham joined Leading in Colour for an important discussion on toxic masculinity, drawing from their personal experiences in immigrant families and communities of colour.
Sid shared his experiences with toxic masculinity in the gaming community growing up, and provided insight on how these spaces can become breeding grounds for white nationalist recruiters. Graham explored toxic masculinity and racism in the online dating community, and the implications for right-wing and trans-exclusionary LGBTQ2 organisations.
Sid and Graham shared that men and masculine-identified folks, regardless of race or sexual orientation, have a lot of work to do to unlearn their own toxic behaviours, and to create spaces of compassion and accountability for other men. They also advocated for better regulations of online spaces to weed out misogyny, homophobia and transphobia, and racism.
