Reconciliation In Your Backyard

Following the recent discoveries of mass graves at former residential school sites, the Backyard Movement team will be hosting an introductory conversation on the history of residential schools, reconciliation and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). We will build on the TRC Calls to Action #66 and #93, which focus on youth organizations working towards reconciliation, and promoting education/awareness on Indigenous history for immigrants and newcomers.

Participants will hear from three Indigenous subject matter experts on what real reconciliation looks like, and how all of us can advance reconciliation in our workplaces, schools and social circles. Following an introduction by the speakers and Q&A session, each participant will have the opportunity to share what they have learned.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 4th from 12:30 to 3:00 pm at Erindale Park (1695 Dundas St W, Mississauga, ON L5C 1E3). The event will take place outdoors in a sharing circle format. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair if they wish. Light refreshments will be provided.

There is no registration fee for this event. However, given that the Indigenous speakers are sharing their time, expertise and lived experience with us, we kindly ask that you consider making a donation to support the cost of the event. You can donate at the PayPal link below or via e-transfer to community@thebackyardmovement.ca. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
